We just started and it’s already great fun. It’s called the Rainbow Stash Buster Project, because we are pulling a rainbow of colours and creating a small artwork each month… THEN, at the end.. our small art pieces will create an inspiring display in a giant RAINBOW of textile and stitched art., as we will be having a fabulous exhibition at one of Australia’s premier quilting events… Woo hoo.
We have members from nearly all over Australia and from the UK, New Zealand and the USA. All at different skill levels. Last week we got together on zoom & drew out our first colour picks, which were lavender and medium orange… and our word prompt was ROUND!
The first to make their 8” textile piece this month was NSW member Carol Leitch. Carol used the tones of lavender and Orange to great effect after she collected Gum leaves on her morning walk. It’s fabulous isn’t it.

Some of our members got together and here are their January pieces… one in progress complete with inspirational image.
Queensland Quilters members Chris Jones, Helen Wilson, Sharon Robertson & myself (Brenda Wood) brought our January pieces to show and tell at the 2QAQ meeting. And they looked great together. Our first 2 colours drawn (med orange & Lavender) along with our word prompt ‘Round’ have made a wonderful colourway. Helen is on her 3rd piece… seen here with her inspirational image, and her other pieces are using techniques and stash items that she has been wanting to try out (top row) Sharon chose to use the word prompt and did some printing as well as stitching (BL), Chris Jones, made modern circles (BM) and Brenda thread stitched and appliqued a bird over a sun dyed background (BR). This is just the start of a collection of works that our subscribers will create over 12 fun months.
The Project
At the end of the subscription, we will be putting our works in an exhibition, at one of Australia’s largest quilt shows…to create a Giant Rainbow of textile and stitched art.
This is the 3rd subscription that we have had over 5 years… The first ones taught us workshop style in an artist’s project, the second built up our stash with a great box of colour and taught us textile techniques. So, in this subscription we are using our stash, building a body of work and implementing techniques we want to explore.
