I had the extreme pleasure to be invited to a TAG meeting in May as a “constructive critic”. I couldn’t help but think what a wonderful honour it was to be asked. I hoped I was up for the challenge, but the artist that was hosting the meeting and therefore issued the invite said that she wouldn’t have asked if she didn’t think I’d do a great job! wow ! Ego Boost!
The Textile ladies in the group are very talented and among them are Bernadine Hine, Sue Duffy, Diane Flint, Rebekah Dundon, Eileen Campbell, Joyce Hyam, Fran Robinson, Alwyn Bowyer, Jean Hill, Tricia Smout, Tina Sutton & Cynthia Morgan who started the group in the early 1980’s. It was originally called the Constructive Craft Criticism Group.
TAG meet quarterly and discuss elements of design and construction and offer friendly advice. Each meeting an artist is invited who is not necessarily from a textile arts background. Different artists from different genre’s provide different perspectives, which is worth considering for any art group.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the group and loved seeing the different works and styles. To be around some of Australia’s most renowned Textile Artists was very invigorating. And yes, I think I did offer some valuable input. phew! 🙂
