BellBird Take 2 Step By Step – Part 2

As part of a challenge for my Textile Arts group, Reddy Arts, we have taken the lines from a poem and depicted them in an art quilt.  We chose Henry Kendall’s poem “Bellbirds”.  I originally made a quilt which was exhibited at an exhibition and it won first prize in the Amatuer Art Quilt section.  Unfortunately it went to another home, not of my choosing.

The quilt was meant to form part of a group display next April.  So I have recreated a new version of the quilt depicting the lines

“when rain and the sunbeams shine mingled together,
they startup like fairies that follow fair weather.
And straight-away the hues of their feathers unfolden,
The green and the purple, the blue and the golden.”

This time I’m up to quilting the background. To reduce the impression on the reverse I have quilted the background with just the top layer of sundyed words and the batting.
I will add the back layer when I come to quilting around the words.
